for a long time now, i've wanted to have a quilt made for my beautiful, wrought-iron, queen sized bed. i recently reconnected with an old and very dear friend, Kim. lo and behold, she's a quilter and she is making a quilt for me! it will either be in this style (which, by the way, is one of my favorite modern quilt designs) or it will be a Disappearing Nine Patch. in exchange, i am knitting a sweater for her and one for her 5 and a half year old daughter, Bea. she lives in L.A., so she has requested a cap-sleeved sweater for herself. i immediately thought of my design, Bibi. it's a design that is still evolving. my recent koigu sweater, was a second, slightly tweaked incarnation. i still haven't quite achieved the look i have in mind. i'm going to attempt to make Kim's sweater a little smock-ier with the bias neck and hem shown in this design from a 1967 issue of Vogue Knitting. the neck and hem are knit separately, on a bias, and then sewn on to the finished garment. the yarn that i have chosen is this new Noro yarn, Chirimen. it's a cotton/silk/wool blend. Kim likes sunset colors - reds, oranges, and purples. so, i'm going to go with color 6. i am really excited to knit for Kim and Bea! and i'm thrilled that she is making a quilt for me! i'll get started just as soon as i can get Rosa off my needles. i have one more ruffle to knit and then i'm done. i'm so not looking forward to sewing on 6 ruffles. i refuse to let this sweater go unfinished, so i'll need to knock it out so that i can start designing Kim's sweater.
